2014 WOMEN'S XC Preview

JACKSON-The 2014 Millsaps Women's Cross Country team returns a group of familiar faces. With a sixth-place finish at the SAA Cross Country Conference Championship last year, the Lady Majors are ready to continue building this solid foundation.

This year the Majors will be lead by seniors Melinda Solomon, Susan Fasano, and Michaela Thurber. After noticeable improvements following the 2014 track season, the Majors are certain that by taking steps in the right direction, they will go above and beyond this year.  Solomon, who now holds a PR of 20:04 in the 5k, and placed fifth in the 10k at the conference championships, is eager to work alongside her teammates to make this year a memorable one. Fasano is ready to carry over her successful spring season into this fall. After making incredible improvements in the steeplechase and pr'ing in the 5k with a time of 20:36, she believes that this is going to be a strong team. The spring season was also a breakthrough for Thurber, who ran a personal best of 20:11 at the MC Opener, and finished sixth in the 10k at the conference championships. She is excited to start the season and witness the personal growth of the team. The combination of leadership, integrity and dedication with these girls will make them unstoppable this season. Though the Majors have lost seniors Courtney Aymett and Sara Sacks, two impeccable leaders who were continuous driving forces for the team, the 2014 seniors hope to make as big of impacts on their teammates as Aymett and Sacks had on them.

Also returning for the Majors is sophomore, Sarah Smith. Smith is a tough, dependable athlete and runner who pr'd in the 5k with a time of 20:43 after coming off a stress fracture injury. The Rincon sisters: Ally, Tori, and Gabby will be making another appearance this season for the Majors. They've spent this summer preparing for this upcoming season and are eager to make an impact on the team. The Lady Majors are happy to welcome newcomer Tori Morgan, who is entering her junior year. Morgan is an all-around, strong athlete who will bring a lot to the team. With this dynamic group of solid runners, it is no secret that the Majors are ready to excel this season. They will travel through the southeast this season representing Millsaps at their best, eager to reach every goal they've set for this year.

The Lady Majors will begin this season close to home for their first meet in at Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi on August 30th
