"We had a solid start to todays round and we played the front nine solid, but could not maintain that good play on the back nine,” said first year Head Coach Eddie Brescher. “Overall, we are not pleased with our play from today, but that is the beauty of having two more days, we can make up a lot of ground over the next 36 holes."
Patton was terrific though as he shot a 38 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine to finish with a score of 74, sitting in ninth place.
"Our sophomores Chris and Drew played very good today as Chris got off to a solid start with birdie on 13 and eagle on 14,” said Brescher on Patton’s play. “Overall, Chris did not strike the ball very well, but kept the ball in play and managed to put together a solid round for not having his "A" game.”
Sophomore Drew Richardson got off to a slow start with a 41 before responding with a 36 on the back nine to shoot a 77 for 20th place while freshman Garrett Barnes came through with a 79 as he sits in 24th. Rounding out the Majors was sophomore Thomas Baxter with an 82 overall in 36th place and freshman Lewis Peters struggled as he shot an 83 to finish 39th overall.
“Drew is very familiar with this course since he is from this area and plays Tunica National regularly,” added Brescher. “He had five birdies today which was great to see."
The Majors are back in action tomorrow morning as they will compete in Round Two of the tournament.
