JACKSON, Miss. – The Majors began the 2010 Soccer Season with a statement. Millsaps defeated the Louisiana College Wildcats 3-0, in a dominating performance.
The young Majors played lights-out defense, and kept the ball in the Wildcats’ territory all night with shot after shot. Any fears that the team was going to have trouble working together were put to rest right away.
The scoring for Millsaps started early with an impressive strike from standout freshman
Malte Schick, off of a tip, set up by
Johannes Schotmann for the assist near the third minute.
Freshman
Michael Pellissier followed with a beautiful assist from Malte Schick, to put the Majors up 2-0 with fifteen minutes to go in the first half.
Near the end of the second half, Johannes Schotmann broke past the Wildcat defenders and scored the game’s third and final goal, sealing the victory 3-0.
In a game that saw five yellow cards handed out, the Majors remained strong defensively allowing only nine shots on goal. Junior
Dylan Broussard had an impressive outing with 6 saves, going the full ninety minutes.
The Majors kept the Wildcats on their toes throughout the game out-shooting the Wildcats 27-9. Freshmen Johannes Schotmann, Malte Schick, and Michael Pellissier combined for more than half of the Majors shots on goal, 10 of 17.
The Majors will travel to Memphis Saturday, September 4 to take on Webster University at 2:00, and Principia College on Sunday September 5 in the Greg Volgas Memorial Classic.
