ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior infielder
Jennifer McKinley and junior outfielder
Laura Litton of Millsaps College have been named to the 2010
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team as voted upon by more than 2,300 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A native of Frisco, Texas, McKinley was honored for the third consecutive year after being a Second Team selection in 2009 and a First Team honoree in 2008.
McKinley maintained a 3.62 Grade Point Average as a biology major while breaking six different Millsaps career offensive records this season for the Majors as well as holding the top spot in doubles and home runs for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Litton, a junior from Collierville, Tenn., carried a perfect 4.0 GPA as an accounting major and will be graduating in just three years from Millsaps.
Litton finished a breakout season hitting a career-best .313 while starting 36 games in the outfield for the Majors.
The Academic All-District VI team is comprised of student-athletes from schools in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
As first team selections, McKinley and Litton will be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America honors which will be announced on
Wednesday, May 26.
