SUWANEE, Ga. – A trio of players from the Millsaps College men’s tennis team have been selected to the 2010 All-SCAC team in exclusive voting by the head coaches in the league.
Freshman
Malte Schick was the only player for the Majors to receive First Team recognition after finishing the season with an impressive 15-8 record at No. 1 singles and a 13-7 doubles record playing with five different partners throughout the season.
Junior
Campbell Hughes was selected as All-SCAC honorable mention for the second consecutive year after being a First Team honoree in 2008.
Hughes completed the season with a 10-6 record in doubles and a 6-8 singles record playing primarily at the No. 1 doubles position and the No. 2 and 3 singles spots.
For the first time in his Millsaps career, senior
Alex Cummings was named All-SCAC honorable mention receiving eight votes.
Cummings finished his career with a 12-8 singles and 15-8 doubles record playing at the No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles positions, respectively.
In the same balloting, Max Frey of Trinity University was selected the SCAC Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year for the second straight season while Trinity’s Russell McMindes was voted Men’s Coach-of-the-Year for the first time in his career.
Coaches voted for 10 players in rank order, with a first-place vote worth 10 points, a second-place vote worth nine points, on down to a 10th-place vote being worth one point. The top 10 players were named all-SCAC and any player beyond the top 10 that received votes were named honorable mention.
