Choctaws Rally Past Majors for 7-6 Walk-Off Win
Box Score

CLINTON, Miss. –
The Millsaps College baseball team experienced a role-reversal for the first time this season as the No. 13 ranked Mississippi College Choctaws rallied for two runs in the ninth for a 7-6 walk-off win on Tuesday night.

Usually the team on the winning side of the late inning rally, the Majors allowed three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to take the loss after leading for the first eight innings.

Jules Roussel and Will Hawkins singled in the first inning and later scored on an error by the MC catcher to put Millsaps in front, 2-0.

Not wanting any pitchers to overwork, head coach Jim Page used seven different pitchers in the Majors’ final tune-up before this weekend’s SCAC Tournament with Shelby Robertson and Boomer Hudson seeing the most action pitching two innings apiece.

Hawkins added a sacrifice fly in the third to increase the Millsaps lead to 3-0 as the rotating pitching staff held the Choctaws at bay until the fifth inning.

MC got on the scoreboard for the first time in the fifth as Andy Smith hit a two-run double to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Majors would answer right back with a lead-off home run by Tyler Berry in the sixth, his team-leading tenth of the season.

Josh Ordeneaux hit an RBI single and Jeremy Aliff stole home in the seventh to give Millsaps a 6-2 advantage.

In the eighth, MC used three hits and a walk to get within one, 6-5, by scoring three times and continued its rally in the ninth scoring twice on a Millsaps error for the 7-6 victory.

Wes Perkins took the loss while MC’s Daniel Cowart picked up the win pitching a scoreless ninth.

The win for the Choctaws was the 100th of head coach Brian Owen’s career at MC as they take the season series two games to one over the Majors, who finished the regular season with an overall record of 24-13.

Millsaps will hit the road on Wednesday as it prepares for its first-round game at the 2010 SCAC Tournament against Rhodes College at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in Millington, Tenn.
