STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Millsaps College men’s golf team traveled to the Emory University Spring Invitational at Stone Mountain Golf Club and finished 17th in a field where seven teams entered ranked nationally in the top 25, including five of the top 10 teams.
Playing the course where the SCAC Championships will be held, the Majors opened the event on Sunday with a 355 and followed that with a final-round 351 to finish with a two-round score of 706.
Jerry Johnston led Millsaps with a 77th place finish with rounds of 86 and 84 for a final score of 170.
Close behind Johnston was
Gabe Aguilar, who carded a first round score of 86 but followed up with an 87 in the final round for a 173 two-round total to place 83rd.
Adam Haywood had the biggest turnaround for the Majors firing a team-low 83 in the final round after an opening round score of 94 for a total of 177 and a 87th place finish.
Rounding out the Millsaps scorecard were
Jake Sherrington (89-99-188) and
James McAuley (99-97-196) with 94th and 95th place finishes, respectively.
Greensboro College won the event with a two-round total 602 (303-299) while Chris Morris from Centre College and Peter Latimer tied for medalist honors with each player shooting a four-over par 144.
After getting a chance to play the championship course, the Majors will return to Stone Mountain for the SCAC Championships, held April 22-25.
