CONWAY, Ark. –
Hitting the road for a series at SCAC West Division foe Hendrix College, the Millsaps College baseball team split Friday’s doubleheader by winning the opening game 6-3 before being run ruled, 19-9 in the second game.

In the first game, the Majors took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning started by back-to-back singles from Jeremy Aliff and Josh Ordeneaux followed by Will Hawkins who was hit by a pitch.

With the bases loaded, Jules Roussel singled home two runs and later Tyler Berry hit a two-run blast to put Millsaps in front.

Hendrix responded with one run off starter Aaron Williams in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 4-1 but the Majors regained their four-run lead when Ordeneaux singled home Aliff who tripled in the previous at-bat.

Millsaps added to its lead with one run in the top of the seventh for a 6-1 advantage while Williams held the Warriors to the one run through the first six innings.

Hendrix continued to battle back hitting a two-run home run off Williams in the seventh but Boomer Hudson came to the rescue recording the final out as the Majors claimed the victory in game one, 6-3.

Williams improved to 5-0 on the season with the win and Hudson earned his third save of the season.

The Warriors caught fire scoring 19 runs on 21 hits to run rule Millsaps in eight innings to earn the split on the day.

The Majors opened the game with four runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run home run by Roussel for an early 4-0 lead.

Hendrix answered with three runs off starter Carson Goldsmith to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Taking advantage of two Warrior errors, the Majors added two runs in the second and scored again in the third to go ahead 7-3.

Battling back, the Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the third to even the score 7-7 forcing head coach Jim Page to turn to the bullpen.

Hendrix continued to pound out hits recording six runs on eight hits in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 12-8 lead.

The Warriors were relentless down the stretch and scored six more times in the bottom of the eighth to run rule the Majors 19-9 in eight innings.

Hudson took the loss for Millsaps in game two and falls to 3-2 on the season as the Majors drop to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in the SCAC but remain atop the SCAC West Division while Hendrix moves to 9-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

The teams will return to action tomorrow afternoon to conclude the weekend series, beginning at 1 p.m.
