Millsaps Wins Lopsided Doubleheader over Rust College

JACKSON –
The Millsaps College softball team dominated from start to finish sweeping a doubleheader with visiting Rust College, winning by scores of 21-0 and 32-0 as both games ended after five innings of play as the Majors improve to 5-7 on the season.

In the opening game, the Majors pitching duo of Kasey Thibodeaux and Brittney McAllister combined to throw a one-hit shutout, with the only batter reaching on a single in the final inning.

Thibodeaux started the game and threw three innings, striking out eight of the nine batters she faced to record the win and move to 4-5 on the season.

Millsaps opened the scoring with five runs in the first inning and never looked back adding six in the second before breaking things wide open with nine in the third.

The Majors took advantage of eight Rust errors and six walks while adding 11 hits in the 21-0 victory.

Game two opened in similar fashion as Millsaps exploded for 12 runs in the first inning and 11 runs in the second.

Again the Bearcats committed eight errors but the Majors still recorded 21 hits in the game to go with nine walks.

McAllister got the win for her first of the season pitching the first three innings allowing three hits before handing the ball over to Lindsay Drane who threw the final two innings.

Helping her own cause, McAllister went 2-for-4 from the plate with four RBIs and three runs scored in the second game.

As a team, Millsaps had a .508 batting average and held Rust to a .147 average in the two games.

Leading the way for the Majors on the day was McKinley who finished 4-for-7 with two home runs, a double and an impressive 11 RBIs while Laura Litton was a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored.

Morgan Ladner went 5-for-7 from the plate with five RBIs and all 13 players that saw action for Millsaps recorded at least one hit and one RBI.

Both teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for another doubleheader. First-pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
