Major Men Open 2010 Season with Loss to West Alabama
Match Stats

JACKSON –
Opening the 2010 spring season Saturday morning, the Millsaps College men’s tennis team claimed two doubles points but ultimately fell to a regionally ranked Division II opponent from the University of West Alabama, 7-2.

West Alabama came in ranked No. 12 in the South Region of Division II but the Majors were the first to claim points when the doubles teams of Campbell Hughes / Malte Schick and David Bastian / Adam Tilly earned 8-4 and 8-3 victories, respectively.

The Tigers rebounded to take all six singles points winning five of the matches in straight-sets.

Schick was the only Millsaps player to go three-sets at the No. 1 position by taking the first set in a tiebreak before falling.

“Great doubles victories started the match well against a quality team,” head coach Jay Pacelli said. “The consistency is singles play was not quite there, but it will come when the team is back at full strength.”

Up next for the Majors is a pair of home matches next Saturday against Northeast Mississippi CC and Meridian CC with play beginning at 9 a.m.
