GEORGETOWN, Texas - Millsaps College failed to score in the opening seven minutes of the game and shot only 22 percent from the floor as Southwestern University coasted to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday night at the Robertson Center, 61-33.
The Pirates (9-12, 5-7 SCAC) jumped out to an early eight-point lead in the opening minutes before baskets from
Shante' Morton and
Lovie Love got the Majors on the board down 8-4.
Southwestern built a 17-point advantage midway through the first half before Millsaps rallied late to cut the deficit to 30-18 at halftime.
Behind a 16-2 run to open the second half, the Pirates built a comfortable 46-20 lead that the Majors could not recover from.
Strong shooting by Southwestern (46 percent) propelled the Pirates to the 61-33 conference win.
Millsaps, still winless on the season at 0-21 overall and 0-12 in the SCAC, was led by Morton's 10th double-double of the season as she finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Shae Seagraves led all scorers with 18 points while Staley Mullins added 10 for Southwestern.
The Majors remain on the road for their next contest against division for Trinity University Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
