ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior guard
Blake Martinez of Millsaps College has been named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team as voted upon by more than 2,300 members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Since 1952, the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams recognize student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. The All-District Teams originated in 2002.
Martinez becomes the second Major in three years and second all-time to garner first team honors as Chad Songy was recognized in 2009. A business administration major, Martinez boasts a 3.54 GPA while starting every game the last two seasons.
This season, Martinez leads the SCAC in 3-point field goals per game (3.4) and ranks third in scoring with 15.2 points per game. As a first team selection, Martinez will be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America honors which will be announced on
Wednesday, February 24.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.
