CONWAY, Ark. - The Millsaps men's tennis team concluded a weekend trip where it dropped a non-conference match to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday before splitting a pair of conference matches with a win over Hendrix College and a loss to Rhodes College on Saturday.
Playing Friday's match with only five players, the Majors put forth a good effort against the Crusaders but lost two critical points to forfeit in a 6-3 loss.
After the Crusaders swept the three doubles positions,
Malte Schick,
David Bastian and
Campbell Hughes all recorded singles victories for Millsaps to remain in the match but it was Mary Hardin-Baylor who got the final points to finish the match.
The Majors bounced back Saturday morning against host Hendrix claiming two of the three doubles points before winning the last four singles positions for the 6-3 conference victory.
"Our second and third doubles teams pulled out some key wins for us today" head coach Jay Pacelli said.
Closing out the weekend with the Lynx from Rhodes, Millsaps was unable to record a point as the match was played to decision due to the lack of court time indoors.
Rhodes claimed all three doubles points but it came down to a late service break at the No. 1 position before being decided.
The Lynx quickly won the necessary two points at No. 1 and No. 6 singles to secure the conference victory, 5-0.
Up next, the Majors travel to Clinton, Miss., Thursday afternoon for a match against rival Mississippi College beginning at 2 p.m.
