JACKSON – After senior guard Blake Martinez finished his playing career for the Millsaps College men’s basketball team on Friday, the awards did not as Martinez was honored Saturday as a Second Team All-SCAC selection in exclusive voting by the coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Martinez, a native of Mandeville, La., finished the season averaging a career-best 15.6 points per game which ranked fourth in the SCAC while recording a league-best 85 2-point baskets made, which topped his single-season record of 82 set in 2008-09.
The honor comes a day after the Majors were defeated in the 2010 SCAC Tournament by the top-seed from the East Division Centre College to finish the season 12-14.
In voting for SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, freshman
Quinn Lemieux received one vote but the award was shared by Andrew Galow of Rhodes College and Jasen Jonus of Birmingham-Southern College.
