Major Women Drop Season-Finale to Austin, 71-58
Box Score

JACKSON -
Coming off its first win of the season Friday night, the Millsaps women's basketball team could not come up with a repeat performance Sunday afternoon as visiting Austin College claimed the conference victory in the final game of the regular season at The Hangar Dome, 71-58.

The 'Roos built a nine-point lead at halftime and cruised to the win in their final tune-up before coming back to Jackson for the 2010 SCAC Tournament next weekend.

Freshman Sarah Spann opened the scoring for the Majors with a 3-pointer but AC answered by scoring 12 of the next 14 points to take a 12-5 lead.

A 7-2 run gave the 'Roos a 19-7 advantage for their largest lead of the half midway through the opening stanza.

Lovie Love scored the game's next five points for Millsaps to cut the deficit to seven-points but the Majors still found themselves down 31-22 at the break.

Millsaps opened the second half scoring the first seven points to get to within two points but a 12-3 run by Austin College out the 'Roos comfortably back on top.

The Majors would get the lead down to six after Jasmine Harbor completed a 3-point play and Shante' Morton hit a rare 3-pointer.

That would be all the closer Millsaps would get as Austin College closed the final five minutes of the game on a 12-5 run for the victory, 71-58.

Morton and Harbor led the Majors offensively with 18 and 13 points, respectively while Deonna Walton finished with eight points and a team-leading seven rebounds.

The 'Roos were led by Katy Williams' double-double as she finished with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Kersti Marusich and Courtney Kenisky added 18 points apiece while Spenser Cruikshank chipped in 10 for Austin College.

Millsaps finishes the season 1-24 overall and 1-15 in the SCAC while Austin College improves to 18-7 overall and 12-4 in the SCAC and will be the #2 seed from the West Division in the conference tournament hosted by Millsaps.
