BOX SCORE
JACKSON – Junior forward
Chris Ingle pumped in a career-high 21 points on a career-best 8-of-10 shooting from the floor and junior teammate
LV Sumler chipped in a career-high nine points and nine rebounds off the bench as Millsaps grabbed its first league win of the year, 69-59, over visiting Southwestern Friday night in the Hangar Dome.
Millsaps (4-7, 1-3 SCAC) led from start to finish, leading by nine at the break and by as many as 11 in the first half, outscoring the Pirates' bench 21-6 on the night en route to an important conference win. Behind nine from Sumler, freshman
Quinn Lemieux had 10 points and
Jeff Brown added a pair of free throws.
The Majors shot a blazing 55 percent in the opening period, thanks to 5-of-5 shooting from Ingle, while holding Southwestern (9-4, 2-2 SCAC) to 36 percent shooting from the floor and just 21 percent (3-of-14) from long distance.
On three different occasions in the final 20 minutes, SU cut the Majors' lead to two before Millsaps kept finding a way to stretch the lead back out on easy layups. SU put together a small 9-4 run with 8:31 to play to cut the lead to 51-49, but wouldn't get any closer the rest of the way.
Millsaps connected on 16-of-23 second half free throws en route to shooting 74 percent (23-of-31) on the night and won the rebound battle 40-26 thanks to five Majors with five or more boards. Senior

SU had four scorers in double figures, led by Travis Barber with 16 and a game-high four steals, Nick Caputo with 13, Zach Bergstrom with 12 and Jonathan Brown with 10.
