BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps College women’s basketball team shot a season-low 23 percent and were out-rebounded 64-21 by Birmingham-Southern College and dropped its 18th straight game of the season Sunday afternoon at Bill Battle Coliseum, 87-40.
The Majors remain winless at 0-18 overall and 0-9 in conference play, while the Panthers move to 8-9 overall and 3-6 in the SCAC.
Millsaps freshman
Elizabeth Sigafoose scored the first basket of the game, but the Panthers tied it up and quickly pulled ahead on a 3-pointer from Caroline King.
BSC continued to score and built an 11-2 lead after a layup by Alex Adams.
The Majors responded with seven unanswered points to cut the lead to two midway through the opening half, but the Panthers countered with a 19-4 run in the next seven minutes to take a 30-13 lead.
Another 10-3 run gave BSC its largest lead of the half before a layup from
Pamela Jackson ended the half with the Panthers leading 40-18.
Millsaps' poor shooting continued to haunt them in the second half as BSC opened on a 22-4 run to take a commanding 65-22 lead.
The Panthers, who shot their best game of the season, going 35-of-68 (51.5 percent) from the field, cruised through the final ten minutes of the game to take the victory, 87-40.
Freshman
Jasmine Harbor led the Majors in scoring with 11 points, while
Lovie Love and
Sarah Spann each chipped in ten points.
King led BSC in scoring with 11 points as the Panthers had 17 different players record points in the game.
BSC broke its single-game rebounding record with 64 boards, while Millsaps pulled down 21. The Majors committed a season-low eight turnovers after averaging 23 a game the rest of the season.
Millsaps returns home for a pair of conference games as it plays host to Sewanee University Friday night at 6 p.m. and Oglethorpe University Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
