Hawkins Named D3baseball.com Preseason All-American

STERLING, Va. – Millsaps junior first baseman Will Hawkins was selected to the 2010 D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Second Team for the first time on Monday.
Last season’s SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, Hawkins was also named a Third Team All-American by D3baseball.com after leading the Majors with a .406 batting average and a SCAC-leading 127 total bases on a career-high 73 hits in 2009.
The junior from Nettleton, Miss., finished a breakout season leading the conference with a career-high 55 RBIs and 17 doubles while slugging a career-high 11 home runs.
The honor marks the third consecutive season the Majors have placed a player on the preseason list after outfielder Hunter Owen received First Team honors in 2008 and 2009.
Hawkins was also named a First Team All-American by D3football.com last fall, becoming the only known Major to earn All-American status in two different sports.
Hawkins and the rest of the Millsaps baseball team will open the 2010 season Friday, Feb. 5, when they play host to the University of the Ozarks at Twenty Field.
