Colonels Defeat Majors at The Hangar Dome, 54-41
Box Score

JACKSON –
Millsaps College freshman Shante’ Morton scored a game-high 26 points and added 12 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season but it was not enough as visiting Centre College came away with the conference win Friday night at The Hangar Dome, 54-41.

The Majors dropped their 15th straight contest as they remain winless on the season while the Colonels improve to 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the SCAC to remain in a tie for the conference lead.

Morton got the Majors on the board first with an early jump shot but the Colonels took advantage of Millsaps turnovers in three consecutive possessions and opened a 13-4 advantage six minutes into the game.

Freshman Lovie Love made a slick pass to Morton for an easy layup to end the Millsaps scoring drought.

Centre built a 16-6 advantage halfway through the opening stanza after a free throw by Chelsea Goodman.

Millsaps responded with five straight points from freshman Deonna Walton, Morton and Love to close the gap, 16-11.

After the Colonels got ahead 22-13, the Majors fought hard and closed the half on a 6-2 run as they trailed 26-23 at the break.

Opening the second half, Centre went on a 10-3 run of its own to take a 36-26 lead capped by Maggie Prewitt's 3-pointer which proved to be the only 3-point basket made in the game.

The Majors would cut into the Colonels’ lead, 40-35 with six straight points from Morton.

This would be the closest Millsaps would get the rest of the way as Centre finished on a 14-6 run in the final eight minutes of the game to claim the road victory, 54-41.

Eight different players scored for the Majors, but only Morton recorded more than three points. Morton finished shooting 50 percent from the floor (11-for-22).

Maggie Prewitt scored a team-high 13 points for the Colonels while Lauren Huter and Keonia Masterson each contributed 11 points.

Up next for Millsaps is the final game of its 6-game homestand Sunday afternoon against conference foe DePauw University. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
