Men Place Fourth in MC Season-Opener at Choctaw Trails

Official Meet Results

CLINTON – In the season-opening 5K run for the Millsaps men's cross country team at Choctaw Trails, freshmen Tim Gillis and Hugo Cordova both turned in Top 30 finishes to help the Majors finish fourth overall out of eight teams and 58 total runners.

"I thought the young men ran very well," first-year head coach Andy Till said. "I know they were a little disappointed with their times, but I am very pleased with their efforts. I used this meet as a tempo run and a chance for our five freshmen to get meet experience."

Gillis' time of 18:17 was good enough for 25th individually, while fellow freshmen Jessie Lee Painter, Hunter Bondurant and Adam Shepherd followed. Junior Stephen Butler rounded out the finishers for Millsaps with a time of 22:41.

Louisiana-Monroe won the meet with 29 points, paced by Moses Chelimo who crossed the tape first with a time of 16:20.62. Teammate Britt Koestler finished third 23 seconds later with a time of 16:43.18.

Tournament host Mississippi College finished second with 45 points.

Millsaps will be back on the trails this weekend, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., for the Brooks Memphis Twilight. The meet will jumpstart at 9:20 p.m.
