PINEVILLE, La. – Down early after a Doug Jackson goal in the 16th minute, visting Millsaps College rallied for three unanswered goals in the second half, including two from freshman
Daniel Moise and one from
Brandon Guichard, to win its season-opener at Louisiana College, 3-1.
The win for Millsaps moved them to 6-3 all-time against the Wildcats, avenging a 4-3 loss in Pineville in 2007 in which the Majors rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the first half.
In a statistically dominated game on the stat sheet, Millsaps outshot LC 18-7 (12-4 SOG) and were the aggressor on offense in finding the tying goal from Moise in the 53rd minute and winning goal from Guichard in the 75th minute off a penalty kick.
Miles Hesterly picked up his first collegiate point in the assist to Moise, while
Phil Guillot was credited with the assist on the final goal. Jackson scored the lone goal for LC off an Edgar Narvaez assist.
The win between the posts went to
Dylan Broussard after stopping three shots and allowing one, whereas Joe Saverino was tagged with the loss after saving nine shots.
Millsaps will continue a stretch of three consecutive on the road this weekend, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., for the Rhodes College Classic Sept. 5-6. The Majors face the University of Dallas at 2 p.m. Saturday and Rust College at Noon on Sunday.
