EDINBURG, Texas -- Just two days after signing a one-year contract with the Edinburg Roadrunners of the United Baseball League -- an independent league of six teams in Texas -- former Millsaps College outfielder Hunter Owen
blasted his first professional home run on Saturday to lead Edinburg to its six-straight home win.
Owen joined the team on Friday, and in his first outing in the cleanup spot went 2-for-4 with an RBI-single in the second inning as part of a 7-4 win over Coastal Bend.
The Jackson, Miss., native followed his professional debut with a 2-for-3 outing on Saturday with four RBIs, including a three-run homer to left field in the first inning. He added an RBI-single in the fourth.
In two games since joining the Roadrunners, Owen is hitting at a .571 clip (4 for 7) with five RBIs, three runs scored, three walks and a home run. He also has a .700 on-base percentage.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the third game of their four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Pedro Flores (1-2) will face Miliade Venas (1-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
