MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The lone representative for Millsaps College in the annual Huntingdon Hawk Invitational at Lagoon Park Golf Course, junior golfer Mirel Brackin carded a two-day score of 186 to finish fourth overall out of 19 total golfers.
“Huntingdon did an excellent job with the tournament and I really enjoyed playing in Montgomery," Brackin said. "The course was nice and the players and coaches from Huntingdon are always very welcoming and friendly."
A native of Alabaster, Ala., Brackin tied a career-best with an opening-day score of 88, which had her tied for third after Round 1 behind Piedmont's Lynee Laseter and Bethann Rogers and Alabama State's Danielle Robinson.
"I was pleased to have shot an 88 the first day since the playing conditions were very cold, wet and windy. Dr. Thaw as my coach helps me keep my game under perspective even under adverse conditions such as these.”
Brackin followed with a 98 on Day 2 of the event, the eighth lowest score of the day, to earn her the first Top 5 finish by a Millsaps golfer in quite some time.
For the tournament, Brackin had the most birdies of any golfer with three, while she ranked ninth in total pars with four. She was also +8 in Par 3 scoring (third) and +5 in Par 5 scoring (second).
Millsaps will wrap up the spring 2009 season April 23-26 in Tunica, Miss., at Tunica National Golf Course at the SCAC Golf Championships.
