Men's Golf Finishes 9th at SCAC Championships

TUNICA -- Playing in their home state of Mississippi at the 2009 SCAC Golf Championships, the Millsaps men's golf team stumbled to a 9th place overall finish, firing a combined three-day score of 1083 at Tunica National Golf Course.
Millsaps fired an opening day score of 363 and sat in last place, paced by a team-best round of 83 from Jerry Johnston and an 89 from senior Jack Rader.
The Majors improved just two strokes as a team from Day 1 to Day 2, coming into the clubhouse with a 361. Johnston's round of 85 was again a team-best, while Madison Field carded an 86 after an opening round 93.
On the third and final day, Millsaps shot a 359 for another two stroke improvement.
Behind Johnston who finished in a tie for 30th place (83-85-83), Field (93-86-96) and Rader (89-95-87), other weekend competitors for Millsaps were senior Freddie Brackin (98-95-93) and junior Daniel Honeycutt (104-101-112).
Oglethorpe University claimed its unprecedented eighth SCAC Championship with a three-day score of 920, holding off a furious run from Rhodes to win by seven strokes. The Petrels earned the automatic qualifier for the Division III Championships to be held in Port St. Lucie, Fla., May 11-16.
