MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Sophomore Casey King went 5-for-7 with three RBIs and a double as Division II Christian Brothers swept a season-opening doubleheader for both teams with 4-1 and 5-1 victories at Bland Field.
In the opening game of the twinbill, CBU got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning after three scoreless, using a two-out, bases loaded walk issued to Kallie McFatter for the 1-0 lead. They would stretch the lead to 4-0 with a three-run fifth inning -- all with two outs -- as King delivered a two-RBI single through the right side and later stole home on a double steal effort.
Millsaps would score its opening run of the 2009 campaign in the sixth inning, as freshman Jenny Laird earned her first collegiate RBI with a single to second that scored Jennifer McKinley.
Nikki Dunn earned her first win of the year in a complete game performance, scattering six strikeouts and four hits, while Kasey Thibodeaux was tagged with the loss.
CBU would complete the two-game sweep in the nightcap with a 5-1 victory, as the teams combined for 22 hits but stranded a total of 23 runners (Millsaps 12, CBU 11).
Millsaps would take an early 1-0 lead in its opening at-bat, with senior Erica Douglas delivering a leadoff inside-the-park home run, before the Lady Bucs responded with two runs in their half of the first to jump in front 2-1.
The Majors threatened to retake the lead in the third inning after loading the bases with two outs but a linedrive to second ended the inning and the threat.
After a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth stretched the CBU lead to 5-1 entering the seventh, Millsaps put together one last rally to try and force extra innings.
The first three runners found their way on base by way of two singles and a walk but back-to-back-to-back popups to the second baseman, Jessica Ambers, ended the game with the bases loaded.
Dunn earned her second win of the day after tossing the final 4.0 innings and scattering five strikeouts and four hits, while Brittney McAllister was tagged with the loss in 5.0 innings of work.
McKinley finished the day 4-for-5 to lead all Majors while Douglas had three hits.
Millsaps will take a week off before traveling to 3rd-ranked Louisiana College on Feb. 21.
