STERLING, Va. – Millsaps College freshman forward/center
Shante' Morton became just the second Major in school history to be named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week on Wednesday, turning in her fourth double-double in eight games.
The
Team of the Week is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, in its 13th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.
Jessica Bowie was the first Millsaps player to earn the weekly recognition for her efforts Jan. 14-20, 2008, averaging 18.5 ppg, 12.5 rpg and 6.5 bpg in helping the Majors snap what was a 15-game conference losing streak at the time.
Morton averaged an impressive 17.7 ppg and 9.3 rpg during the week of Dec. 14-20, shooting 61 percent from the floor (20-of-33) and 77 percent (13-of-17) from the charity stripe. Her week was highlighted by her fourth career double-double at Rust College, scoring 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and adding 12 rebounds.
She's led the team in rebounds and scoring in seven of the Majors' first 10 games, and currently ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (.550), fourth in rebounds (8.2 rpg) and eighth in scoring (14.6 ppg) with a pair of 20-point games.
The Majors will return to the hardwood Dec. 31 at home against Belhaven University.
