ATLANTA, Ga. - Freshman right side hitter
Raven Scott and junior outside hitter
Kate Hall were among two players recognized at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, with Scott becoming the first Major in school history to earn Freshman of the Year honors and Hall grabbing Second Team All-SCAC honors.
A native of Boutte, La., Scott led the Majors with 38 solo blocks during the regular season, while finishing with a .205 hitting percentage and 194 kills (4th on the team). Her 0.89 blocks-per-set ranked second on the team and helped the Majors to a fourth-place national ranking in the category during the regular season.
Scott just edged out DePauw University’s Katie Petrovich for the award. Scott received five votes in earning FOTY honors, just one more than Petrovich. Nita Kavouspour of Austin College received the remaining two votes.
Coming off Third Team All-SCAC honors a year ago, Hall led the Majors with 356 kills (5th in the SCAC) and a career-best 3.24 kills-per-set. She posted double digit kills in 22 matches, including a season-best 20 against Loyola, and boasted a career-best .248 hitting percentage during the regular season.
Hall is also the first Major since Ashley Weber in 2004 to earn Second Team honors and one of four Millsaps players to be named a two-time all-conference selection in a career.
Millsaps closed the year at 17-17 overall, finishing at .500 for the first time since 2004.
