Oliver Galicki, Millsaps College had two of six first team selections from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference who were named to the 2009
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District football team today.
The duo are the first selections from Millsaps since standout defensive lineman Casey Younger earned Academic All-District VI First Team honors in 2007.
Herman is a three-time Academic All-SCAC selection, boasting a 3.75 GPA in chemistry, and has been all over the field this season for the Majors' defense. The senior from Monroe, La., has tallied 39 tackles (28 solo), 5.0 tackles-for-loss, a sack, two QB hurries and forced a fumble. He was also one of two Majors recognized individually for Millsaps during the presentation of the David M. Halbrook Award.
A computer science major (business minor) with a 3.79 GPA, Galicki has played and started in all 20 games of his career thus far, not missing one snap for the Purple & White. On the season, he has graded out at 90, allowing just five sacks in 528 total plays from scrimmage and averaging close to six pancakes a game. He was also a 2008 Academic All-SCAC selection as a freshman.
Birmingham-Southern's Walter Arrington, DePauw University's Alex Fitch, Rhodes College's Andy Boucher and Trinity University's Daniel South were the other first team selections, while Ryan Creel of Birmingham-Southern and Spud Dick of DePauw were each tabbed second team selections.
