SUWANEE, Ga. - After helping Millsaps to a share of its fourth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship with a 61-7 win at Sewanee, junior return specialist
Michael Galatas and senior linebacker
Miles Sager have been named the SCAC's Special Teams and Co-Defensive Player of the Week.
The weekly conference award for Galatas marks his third this season, averaging 51 yards on a pair of kick returns against Sewanee, including a 75-yard return in the second quarter for a touchdown that broke a pair of Millsaps records.
Galatas’ kick return for a score gave him 658 kick return yards this year, breaking All-American Chris Jackson's old mark of 568 return yards in 2006. The kick return for a score was also the third of his career, breaking Jesse McRight's record of two set from 1978-81. On the year, Galatas is averaging a career-best 26.3 ypr with two scores.
Sager had a team-high eight tackles (seven solo), a forced fumble and a pair of blocked punts on a defense that allowed a season-low 135 total yards. Sager’s blocked punts came on back-to-back Sewanee possessions in the third quarter, with the first one going out of the back of the end zone for a safety. On the year, Sager has three blocked punts, while the Majors have five total.
Millsaps as a team has now boasted a total of 10 SCAC Players of the Week this season, including five on special teams, three defensive and two offensive.
The Majors are idle this weekend and return to Harper Davis Field on Saturday, Nov. 14 in their regular season finale against Birmingham-Southern at 1 p.m.
