MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps volleyball team traveled to Rhodes College for four matches over the weekend at the SCAC Central-East Divisional and returned home with three victories and one loss to improve to 10-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
In the opening match against host
Rhodes College on Saturday, the Majors built an early two-set lead (25-19, 28-26) only to have the Lynx rally and win the next three sets (21-25, 24-26, 13-15) to take the match giving Millsaps its first loss in a five-set match this season.
Everything went right for the Majors after the opener as they went on to sweep through the next three matches 3-0.
Millsaps began the win streak with a quick 3-0 match against
Oglethorpe University where the Majors dominated from start to finish, 25-14, 25-12, 25-13.
Starting early Sunday morning, Millsaps carried the momentum from the night before as they again took command of the match from the outset against
Sewanee University and finished with scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-18. Junior
Kate Hall and sophomore
Kasey Laird led the squad with nine kills each in the match.
In the final match of the weekend, the Majors faced
Centre College and continued their exceptional play winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-14). Laird finished with 10 kills and senior
Dixie Krauss paced the defense with 22 digs.
Millsaps will take its three-match win streak on the road to Holly Springs, Miss. Wednesday as they will take on Rust College at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference match.
