CLINTON – The Millsaps men’s and women’s cross country teams had another strong showing at the Choctaw Open this past weekend, a course they've become familiar with.
For the men’s team, Taylor Weglicki led the Majors with a time of 23:08. Behind Taylor for Millsaps were Lloyd Gray with a time of 23:36 and Ben McNair with a time of 28:45.
“We had great weather and of course we were on a very a familiar course,” head coach Beverly Brower said. "So that was definitely something that was to our advantage.”
The University of Louisiana Monroe won the four mile race with 21 points, while rounding out the top five schools were Mississippi College 58, Xavier University 96, Jackson State 106 and Spring Hill 111.
“The men ran really well in spite of a tough week of practice,” Brower said.
As for the women’s team, Anna Johnson led the Majors with a fifth place finish in a time of 19:57. Maria Greene (23:08), Anna Allred (23:12) and Kate Garand (26:32) followed close behind Johnson for Millsaps.
Mississippi College won the team competition with 59 points, just ahead of Southern Mississippi with 63 points. Rounding out the top five schools were Xavier University 79, Belhaven 95 and Spring Hill 103.
“We had a runner out this week and did not score as a team,” Brower said. “The women all had great performances though and we look to build of that momentum.”
The Majors next meet is on Nov. 1 at the SCAC Championships, hosted by Rhodes College out of Memphis, Tenn.
